This year, I'm celebrating 7 years as FITMOM Ottawa's owner. In this time I have had the opportunity to meet hundreds of women and families in our community. Our community of mothers is what really makes FITMOM classes special. Without the love, support and belief in FITMOM, our programs, classes and services wouldn’t be what they are today. To help celebrate our 7 year milestone I have asked some of our FITMOM Community Members to share their experience with you!

Meet Katey. Katey's been a dedicated FITMOM since she was pregnant in 2013. Katey's smile is contagious, she has a huge heart and will drop everything to help a friend. Knowing what it's like to suffer from postpartum depression, Katey volunteers her time to help other new moms navigate their way through their early days of parenthood. I'm lucky to have her in my classes and to live in the same neighbourhood as she does. But, I'm especially lucky that she sings the FITMOM praises from the rooftops at any opportunity she gets!

Q:Which FITMOM are you?

Currently a FITWOMAN, but previously was a FITMOM 2B, and a FITMOM and Baby.

Q:When did you start FITMOM?

I was about 5 months pregnant with my 2nd baby when I joined FITMOM2B.

Q:What keeps you coming back?

What keeps me coming back??!! Oh jeeze, where do I start. Some days it's the need to de-stress with a good workout, to feel your muscles move and strengthen. Other days, it's because I need the company of the amazing women I call friends, that I see Thursday nights at FITWOMAN. No matter the reason, I get both every single time I come. And I simply hate the weeks I can't make it.

Q:What is your favourite FITMOM class?

I am a Thursday FITWOMAN junkie. It's a routine, an automatic. If I am not working or away, I am at FITMOM on Thursday night. But I have begun to love the Saturday morning classes also. Now that my babies are big and I don't get to work out with them anymore, I like the chance to bring them to a class so that they can hang out with the other kids.

Q:What’s the exercise you love to hate?

I love to hate pushups. I always think I can't do another one... then I manage just ONE more. :)

Q:What’s the biggest benefit you’ve received from attending FITMOM Classes?

There is no question my strength is better than it has been in my entire life, and I thank FitMom for introducing me to strength training as part of my regular exercise. But, hands down, no contest, the biggest benefit is the amazing community of women I call friends thanks to FITMOM. During a sweaty session, we laugh, we cry, we dance....then we get together outside of class and repeat. THIS is by far the best benefit.
